A Means of Passing the Time, 2007
16mm film installation. 16mm film projection, black and white, audio, 6' loop, division wall with elongated window, script on a shelf.
Variable dimensions
This film installation is based on the interactive theater “Murder Mystery Series” performed at US Army bases around the world by USO entertainers in the 1990s. The artwork is the result of the collaboration with Mark Gowers, one of the former actors and theater scholar. The film borrows the structure of mumming – a brand of home entertainment originated in England in the 18th century – to question the discursive strategy that carves out moral values, shared geographies and local references; an equivalency of a show from “back home.”
